How often should I come in for a teeth cleaning?

The frequency recommended is individualized. After the initial exam and cleaning, the dentist or hygienist will suggest a time frame best suited to benefit your specific needs. Regular dental check-up, and cleanings prevent gum disease and allow us to spot potential problems before they become serious.

2

Is it normal for my gums to bleed when I brush or floss my teeth?

It is fairly common for gums to bleed a little when brushing or flossing, especially if not done frequently. However with prolonged lack of proper hygiene practises this can indicate the beginning stages of gum disease. If left unattended this can lead to receding gums and possible tooth loss.

3

As a new patient, can I come in for a cleaning without an exam?

Yes new patients can come in for a cleaning without an exam. However, it is strongly encouraged for the benefit of your oral health to receive an exam with your cleaning as it allows us to take x-rays and diagnose cavities and/or other issues that cannot be seen by simply looking in the mouth. That being said, if the patient chooses to receive a cleaning without an exam, we do require a signature on a liability release form stating that the patient acknowledges that they are going against medical advice and are responsible for any dental or health related issues that may occur as a result of this.

4

What can cosmetic dentistry do for me?

We want to help you achieve the aesthetically pleasing smile you have been wishing for! Cosmetic dentistry can include everything from whitening you teeth to completely reshaping your smile. If there is anything you wish to change about the appearance of your teeth, chances are cosmetic dentistry can help. We offer the services you require to achieve your oral health goals.

5

What can be done to replace missing teeth?

Whether you are missing one tooth or a number of teeth, our dentists can help you find the treatment that is right for you. A popular form of tooth replacement are dental implants, which involve the placement of a titanium post as well as a natural-looking fake tooth or crown. Another excellent option is a dental bridge. A dental bridge is utilized to close or ‘bridge’ the gap that is caused by missing teeth. A bridge is permanently cemented to the natural teeth on either side of the gap, or an implant is placed to replace the missing tooth or teeth.

6

How much does cosmetic dentistry cost?

The cost of cosmetic dental treatment varies from patients needs, to procedures offered. While many cosmetic treatments, such as tooth whitening, are relatively inexpensive, more involved procedures, such as porcelain veneers, and invisalign incur higher costs but tend to produce longer-lasting, highly attractive results. After the consultation appointment has been completed, a personal estimates will be given, and an approval request will be sent to your insurance company.

7

How can I get a whiter smile?

At Talbot Family Dental we offer in-office zoom whitening as well as take-home whitening. If tooth whitening is not an option in your particular case, you may be a better candidate for obtaining a whiter smile via dental bonding, veneers, or crowns. Ask our dentists for more information on your individualized case.

8

Can my gap be closed with Invisalign?

With the help of custom aligner trays, each made specifically to fit the size and shape of your teeth, and designed to help you achieve your personal dental goals, Invisalign allows us to adjust, straighten and close small gaps. Allowing you to make the changes you desire in a shorter amount of time than traditional braces!

9

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

Depending on the complexity of your case, and the amount of change you want to make to your smile, you could complete your treatment in as little as 6 months. But you will start seeing results in a matter of weeks.

10

What are the minimum and maximum ages for dental implants?

During implant placement, the jawbone should be fully matured. The status of bone development can be confirmed by your dentist. Implants are generally recommended for people of 18 years or above. There is no maximum age limit to receive implant treatment.

11

How long does an implant last?

After the initial healing phase, a properly placed and restored implant supported by healthy oral habits can last a lifetime. However, it is important that you maintain regular dental checkup, and cleanings to ensure long-term success of your implants.

12

Can implants be placed immediately after removing teeth?

Based on the condition of the teeth being extracted and the bone quality and quantity, an implant may be placed immediately after tooth extraction. This is known as immediate implant placement.
